Easter traditions we remember

Allison
I remember it being warm on Easter and we would go outside in the backyard for pictures. Mom always made a new dress for me. My favorite one was a long dress with blue polka dots and eyelet lace down the front like an apron. It was my "holly hobby" dress. A few of my dresses came with hats. At church it was fun to wear a hat, it made you feel all grown up. We hunted for baskets that were well hidden and always full.

Smash up derby was the best. One year we made the eggs "unbreakable." I wrapped toilet paper around mine and taped it all together. Do glued thumb tacks to his, Michelle I think put tape all over hers. All I remember is that Donny beat the yolks out of us all. fun stuff.

The tough part of Easter was the expectation. There had to be new dresses and Easter baskets hiding behind the couch and in the oven. There had to be ham and hot rolls served on Grandma Bunker's hand painted china plates. Everybody had their favorite pattern. The budget had to stretch a hundred different ways to get it all together. One year, I felt sorry for my boys who traditionally got a new tie and so I made blue jackets for the little ones and got Mark a new light blue polyester suit for the holiday. How retro is that!
